Tamang Heritage and Sacred Lakes

16 days, Grade B+

Inside a homestayTraditional Tamang cottageChildren in traditional Tamang dressGanesh HimalWatch trip slide showTibetan Borderlands, Heritage Trails, Home Stays and Hot springs are just some of the treasures of this unique trip. This trek takes you along the Tamang Heritage Trails through the central part of the Nepal Himalaya (in Ganesh and Langtang regions) and to the Tibetan borders. The trail passes through traditional villages where culture, and crafts have remained unchanged since settlement began. This is a unique trek offering the opportunity to lodge with locals in a family home stay. This allows a superb opportunity to really experience the way of life in these remote villages.

We trek to Gatlang where we can relax by Parvati Kund, the first of the sacred lakes we will visit. We then climb to Tatopani where we can bathe in the hot spring waters. The trail then heads east towards the Bhote Koshi valley across a very picturesque trail with great viewing points to see the mountains. Once we meet the Bhote Kosi we then descend to the river and cross over to Briddim. Here we lodge at an award winning family home stay.

We then climb to visit Gosainkund Lakes, revered sacred by Hindu’s. An ancient tale tells how the lakes were believed to be formed by Shiva and his consort Parvati. A descent to the trail end allows us to meet our transport and return to Kathmandu. This is the only trek that provides family home stay accommodation and allows you to explore the remote people and culture of the Tamang and Tibetan borderland area.

We had an excellent guide & assistant – other people on the trail were so impressed with their knowledge and care of clients, they were quite jealous! I feel really lucky to have booked with The Responsible Travellers in order to get such great people to look after us

A fine first trip, a bit hard for an unfit & overweight fella like me, but I coped. We were all well looked after, and the viewpoint at Nagthali is absolutely sensational (hope you have good weather like us) – and I got up there! I’m hankering after the next trip. I can’t think of anything to suggest for you to improve! You are doing very well with very helpful and hard working staff. I hope to see you again TdB.

Guide, Assistant guide and porters looked after the group very well. I could not fault the service, knowledge of staff or concern for our well being throughout the trip. Our leader had excellent knowledge on flora, fauna and birdlife which made each day informative and interesting

Thank you for a truly amazing trek, really the experience of a lifetime. Maila and Kasang took such good care of me that it’s been tough to come home and have to fend for myself again. Really a fantastic service all round, great value for money and best of all the benefits directly reach the local communities we visited. Can’t wait to come back! Ann

This trek was an excellent opportunity and introduction to Nepal. We can now say that we know how the Nepali live, their ways of life, habits and customs. Although sometimes the difference in accomodation and facilities was sometimes a shock compared to home. The Responsible Travellers have satisfied completely what I came looking for in Nepal. Namaste!
